A UV intensity value should identify the radiometer and spectral range used to measure it. Two instruments can report different values for the same curing source. Before changing a process limit or accepting a replacement lamp, confirm that the measurement basis remains valid.
Record the qualified combination
Dymax’s LED conveyor information identifies the radiometer used for its reported intensities and notes that readings vary with instrument make and model. This makes detector identity part of a meaningful comparison.
List curing material, light-source type, wavelength option, radiometer model and measurement geometry. Preserve the actual qualification record rather than a handwritten intensity target detached from its original equipment.
Check a proposed measurement substitution
| Change | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| New radiometer | Is its response suitable and correlated? |
| Different source type | Does the material and measurement method remain applicable? |
| Changed wavelength | Is the qualified cure route still represented? |
| Different sensor position | Does it receive comparable exposure? |
Obtain the material and equipment suppliers’ guidance when changing the combination. Do not create an informal conversion factor from one convenient reading and apply it to every source condition.
Preserve the measurement condition
Record sensor orientation, distance and location. Include the source’s ready state and the instrument’s valid measurement range. Use the approved procedure for cleaning and checking the detector; an altered sensor surface can undermine a trend.
For example, a replacement instrument may fit the conveyor mechanically while measuring a different spectral band. A larger displayed number would not establish that the adhesive receives a more effective curing exposure.
When an instrument returns from service, review its calibration information and any change affecting the existing process limit. Keep the previous trend interpretable rather than silently joining two measurement bases into one graph.
If two instruments are compared, measure under a controlled common source condition and document the comparison plan. Avoid readings separated by an undocumented source adjustment, since the observed difference would then combine instrument response with a changed exposure.
Verify the cured result
Radiometry controls delivered light under specified conditions. It does not replace the material-specific evidence that the intended bond or coating has cured adequately. Include the actual geometry, thickness and any obscured region in the qualification.
Release the instrument-source combination and the required verification together. If the original basis is unknown, recover or repeat the necessary qualification instead of adopting a number whose meaning cannot be established.
The conveyor traverse guide addresses where light is measured, while surface-preparation timing covers a separate contributor to adhesive performance.
