A removable shield cover can hide the frame’s soldered connections and the components inside it. Plan inspection at the stage where those features remain accessible. Installing the cover should be a defined assembly step with its own fit and retention checks.
Identify the matched frame and cover
Würth Elektronik’s WE-SHC range includes two-part constructions with a solderable frame and removable cover. Match the actual order codes and drawings; a cover with similar overall dimensions is not necessarily compatible with another frame.
Record the frame orientation, attachment pattern and cover engagement features. Include any intentional ventilation, access or clearance opening in the product definition.
Inspect what the cover will conceal
Check the frame’s required solder connections and its position relative to neighboring components. Inspect internal parts using the product’s normal acceptance method before access is restricted. Retain images where they support later investigation without unnecessary disassembly.
For example, a frame wall slightly shifted toward a component can still accept the cover. Cover fit therefore does not establish that the internal component clearance is correct.
Review installation access and support
| Feature | Question |
|---|---|
| Engagement edge | Is the intended cover feature aligned with the frame? |
| Application force | Does the approved method avoid loading nearby parts? |
| Board support | Is the assembly supported where needed? |
| Final seating | Can the required engagement be inspected? |
Use the supplier’s installation guidance for the selected construction. Do not bend a cover informally until it fits; that changes the feature whose retention and contact behavior the product relies on.
Place any required cleaning or coating inspection before cover installation when access is needed. If a later operation requires reopening the shield, preserve that change in the route so the original open-frame inspection is not mistaken for evidence of the final condition.
Verify the completed assembly
- Confirm required pre-cover inspections are complete.
- Install the correct cover by the approved method.
- Check seating, retention and surrounding clearance.
- Perform specified electrical or EMC verification.
- Record any removal and reinstallation during rework.
Mechanical seating is useful evidence, but it does not alone demonstrate the required electromagnetic performance. Keep that product-level conclusion connected to appropriate testing.
If the cover must be removed for service, qualify the intended access and replacement route. A removable design does not mean an unlimited number of uncontrolled pry-and-refit operations is acceptable.
Retain the open-frame inspection definition when panelization changes. The cover may be installed at a different stage, changing which test or repair access remains possible.
The cap-sequence guide addresses another removable assembly item, while coating shadow review helps identify regions affected by later protective structures.
