A coating that can be handled without obvious marking may still be progressing toward the condition required for testing, packaging, or service. Treat touch-dry time and cure completion as different process milestones. Identify the evidence needed before each downstream operation rather than assigning one generic dry status.

Read the product-specific milestones

Techspray’s 2108 coating data sheet lists dry-to-touch and cure information separately. The distinction is the useful starting point; values from one chemistry or specified environment should not be applied to another coating or an unverified film thickness.

Record the material, application method, required film condition, and qualified cure route. Include environmental or equipment conditions that the material instructions make relevant. Define when elapsed time begins: application completion, entry into a controlled environment, or achievement of the specified product condition, as required by the actual procedure.

Assign release states to real operations

Milestone Decision to document
Handling readiness Which transfers or fixtures can contact the assembly?
Mask removal When can temporary protection be removed without damaging the boundary?
Test readiness What coating state is required for the specified inspection or electrical test?
Final release What evidence establishes completion of the approved cure process?

Coordinate the mask-removal inspection with these states. An assembly transferred successfully to a rack has passed a handling event, not every later acceptance requirement. Label held work so an operator cannot interpret a completed coating application as final release.

Investigate a schedule change through evidence

For example, moving coated boards into packaging earlier may create contact marks or leave a process requirement unmet even if the exposed surface appeared dry. A proposed shorter hold needs qualification against the material and product requirements. Repeating a finger-touch check is not an adequate substitute.

When heat curing is used, the loaded-oven product-temperature map helps establish the exposure of actual assemblies. For another cure mechanism, choose evidence appropriate to that mechanism rather than copying an oven checklist.

Record interrupted cycles, extended holds, and reworked areas separately. A local repair may restart part of the cure sequence for that region. The final traveler should show that all required operations reached their defined release states, with exceptions resolved explicitly.
